Strong Storms/Tornado Hit West Virginia

{Charleston, West Virginia}...Strong winds blew the roof off a trailer in Marmet and a car was underwater on Charleston's West Side Friday night, as much of the Midwest experienced a tornado outbreak that led to several deaths and threatened central West Virginia. The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Lawrence County, Kentucky and then moved into Wayne County and finally into Lincoln County. It stretched 27 miles. Appalachian Power and Allegheny Power reported that the storms that rolled through the state knocked out power to more than 8,000 customers. Saturday, the West Virginia National Guard deployed crews into some of the affected areas to work with local and state authorities to assess the damage and coordinate the response of the West Virginia National Guard. Liaison teams were deployed to Lincoln, Wayne, Logan and Marion counties. The primary role of the LNO is to have a presence in the local community, conduct reconnaissance of affected areas, and forward information back to the WVNG Joint Operations Center. The WVNG also flew the Governor Earl Ray Tomblin and key members of his response staff over some of the affected areas.
