West Liberty Tornado Was Heading Toward Charleston
{Charleston, West Virginia}...National Weather Service Meteorologist Ken Batty says a team from the weather service has determined the super cell that began near West Liberty, Kentucky Friday night traveled on the ground for some 80 miles including an entrance into Wayne County, West Virginia and then continuing into eastern Lincoln County was heading straight toward Charleston when it broke apart in eastern Lincoln County. Batty says the tornado did damage in West Virginia but the areas it passed over are not densely populated. If it would have stayed together for a few more miles it would have entered heavily-populated Kanawha County. Batty says the debris that some Kanawha County residents report discovering in their yards from West Liberty, Kentucky is also another indication of the storm's path Friday night. The second tornado that came into West Virginia was on a ridge top near Kermit in Mingo County. It destroyed a communications tower and did some other damage.
