The man who killed Monongalia County Sheriff’s deputy Sgt. Todd May will spend 25 to 50 years behind bars.
Jerod Green, 36, was sentenced in Green County , Pa.
The jury decided Green intentionally rammed May’s cruiser during that pursuit. Green claimed the collision was accidental.
At Tuesday’s sentencing, Green briefly apologized to the family, saying he was sorry for their loss.
Frank May, Sgt. May’s brother, said the family is happy with the sentence. He also told the media that his brother took a violent criminal off the streets in his final act.
Before the judge issued a sentence, Frank May read a witness impact statement in which he said losing Sgt. May had an immeasurable effect on the family.
Sgt. May was an organ donor and has helped several lives, Frank May said.
Green’s attorney previously indicated he would attempt to appeal the guilty verdict.
