It may have been the largest getaway vehicle ever

An accused bank robber is behind bars. Charleston Police say the man who held up the BB&T branch at the Patrick Street Plaza on February 1st has been arrested in Louisville, KY.
Charleston police had clear video of man who robbed bank on Feb. 1.
William Douglas Young, 40, of Louisville was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals late Wednesday night after one of his co-workers identified him as the man who robbed the bank two weeks ago. That company, TSI, is located in Louisville and Young a long haul trucker.
Charleston Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper says surveillance video captured the suspect on tape and got several good shots of his face.
“When the photograph was posted in the media and we didn’t hear anything as far as tips that panned out, we started to think that it was possible he was from out of town.” explained Cooper.
In several of the surveillance videos, an 18-wheeler could be seen parked about 50 yards away. Cooper says the detectives handling the case decided to make a phone call about it.
“We had hoped that maybe the driver had seen something due to the fact that the suspect ran the direction of the truck,” Cooper said.
Little did Cooper expect that when they called the TSI trucking office looking for the driver, they’d break the case.
“An employee there checked the surveillance video that we had released to the media here locally and called us back and let us know the bank robber was actually their truck driver,” Cooper said.
Young was arrested without incident late Wednesday night in Louisville. He’s charged with one count of armed robbery.
Cooper says they’re not sure if Young was making a delivery or pick-up in Charleston when he allegedly robbed the bank or if he specifically targeted that location.
“It is being investigated by the FBI whether or not it’s possible that he could have committed similar crimes in the recent past that may have gone undetected,” he said.
Young is expected to be back in court in Louisville in the next 10 days for an extradition hearing.
