Man Convicted of Bar Robbery Given Mercy

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The man convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery and malicious wounding in the brutal robbery of a Huntington bar last year was given mercy on his kidnapping conviction Monday afternoon.

Friday night, William Fykes, 43, of Flatwoods, Ky., was convicted on all counts for the robbery at the Stonewall night club on January 1, 2012.

During Monday’s hearing in Cabell County Circuit Court, the same jury that convicted Fykes deliberated for about 30 minutes on whether he should or should not receive mercy on the three kidnapping charges.

The mercy recommendation means Fykes will be eligible for parole.

Fykes is expected to be sentenced later this month.
