'Operation Zero Tolerance' Drug Roundup in Mingo County

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. --- The shelves are full in a small evidence room in the basement of the Mingo County Courthouse.

On those shelves are pills, cash, jewelry and guns -- all of it seized during a countywide drug raid last Friday.

"All of these are from out of state,"Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum said. "We're seeing a lot of doctor shopping in Tennessee and Georgia."

Friday's sweep resulted in more than 50 indictments and more than $300,000 in cash and property confiscated.

The task force commander is Dave Rockel. He's also known to residents of Williamson, W.Va., as the city's police chief. He says this sweep is just the beginning of a new, dedicated effort to get drugs off the street.
