Virginia}…Thirty-seven year old John Edward Dempsey, the man wanted in
connection with the murder of 88 year old Grover Morrison of Logan, was
killed after a police chase Thursday night. West Virginia State Police say Dempsey
attempted a home invasion at a home in Taplin but was chased away by a man wielding
a firearm. He then targeted the man’s neighbor, where he held Pamela Irwin at
gunpoint, stole her SUV and drove off. Troopers spotted Dempsey shortly
after he stole the vehicle and he led troopers on a chase that came to an
end near Man when Dempsey pulled over, exited the vehicle with a weapon, presenting
an immediate threat to the officers who responded with gunfire. Police say they
found Freddy Williams stabbed to death in the same area as Dempsey stole the
vehicle.
