Rockefeller Won’t Seek Re-election

{Charleston, West Virginia}…Longtime U.S. Senator 75 year old Jay Rockefeller, who is currently serving his fifth term in the U.S. Senate where it began in 1984, announced Friday in Charleston that he will not be running for re-election in 2014. Rockefeller, who came to West Virginia in 1964 as a volunteer with the VISTA program, was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1966 and then won his race for Secretary of State in 1968. Rockefeller lost his only election in West Virginia in 1972 when he ran for governor against Arch Moore. He ran again in 1976 and was elected to his first of two four year terms, defeating Arch Moore. Rockefeller says he plans to focus on his family and find other ways to work in public service.
