Lincoln County Commission Audits Employees after Payroll Questions Arise

LINCOLN COUNTY, W.Va. -- Lincoln County Commissioners are looking into employee records in response to potential personnel policy violations.

Commissioner K.K. Matthews requested an audit of all commission employees in conjunction with the county prosecuting attorney.

Matthews says he found red flags while examining payroll documents as part of a budgetary review process.

"Specifically, it appears that there has been extensive exploitation of the use of sick time, comp time and overtime," he said in a statement. "I urge all elected officials to be vigilant and abide by the West Virginia State Code and the Lincoln County Personnel Policy."

The county's current personnel policy has been in place for 23 years and was finalized by a federal court order.
