Fatal mining accident in Boone County

A man is dead after a Wednesday night mining accident in Boone County.
The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. at the Newtown Energy, Inc. Peerless Mine in the Comfort Area.
The miner was taken to CAMC General. A spokeswoman for the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health Safety and Training told the Charleston Gazette the roof bolter later died as a result of his injuries.
The mine is controlled by Patriot Coal Corporation and has a little more than 130 workers.
An investigation is underway.
