Work continues on Blacksville No. 2 mine fire

Work to seal off the fire inside the Blacksville No. 2 mine continues.
The mine, owned by Consol Energy, is located near Wayne in Greene County, PA. The fire was first detected 10 days ago.
Up to this point, crews have been using a combination of nitrogen and water to combat the blaze. They are now going to begin injecting a material called rocksil through the surface boreholes to continue the temporary seal process.
The goal is to continue this process and decrease the oxygen content.
Once the sealed area is inactive, rescue crews could possibly enter the underground area sometime next week to evaluate the area.
All mine employees managed to escape the mine when it first started and operations at the mine have been halted.
