Man Charged With Attempted Murder

Twenty-six year-old Mathew Hackney of Hurley, Virginia was charged with attempted murder and traffic violations after he attempted to run over a West Virginia State Police Trooper Saturday morning near the Wyoming-Mingo county line. The trooper was assisting the Wyoming County Sheriff's Department with a traffic stop, and, one suspect fled. The trooper and deputy then chased that suspect, and took him into custody. When the two officers got back to the car, they say the headlights cAme on and the car came right at the trooper. The trooper then fired his gun, shooting Hackney in his arm while he fled in the car. Hackney was taken into custody by the Virginia State Police and is recovering in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Jonathan Stacey, also faces charges. Both suspects are from Virginia.
