{Elkins, West Virginia}...A manhunt began Thursday afternoon after West Virginia State Police Corporal Andrew Loudin, of the Crimes Against Children Unit, was shot at a home near Elkins High School about 4:00 P.M. Fifty-five year old William David Dumire was found just before 8:30 P.M. in a drain culvert near Kelly Mountain Lodge, off US Route 33, near Elkins. Police say there was an exchange of gunfire between Dumire and troopers, and Dumire died as a result of that shootout. Police say Dumire had driven to the culvert after carjacking a victim in Elkins at gunpoint earlier in the evening. The victim was not hurt. Court records show protective orders had been filed against Dumire on behalf of a 12 year old girl whose mother won an emergency protective order and a 180-day domestic violence protective order in Randolph County Magistrate Court on April 25th. The orders required Dumire to surrender weapons and ammunition, noting he kept three handguns at his ex-wife's house. The case was scheduled to be back in court Monday. Sgt. Michael Baylous says Corporal Loudin was interviewing Dumire when the shooting happened. Loudin, a ten year veteran of the West Virginia State Police, was stable and conversing with family and friends at a Morgantown hospital Friday.
