Army Sergeant And Associate Convicted
{Elkins, West Virginia}...Federal jurors in Elkins have convicted an Army sergeant and an associate of bribery and money laundering related to defense contracts in Kuwait. In a release issued Tuesday, the U.S. Justice Department said Sgt. 1st Class Richard Evick of Parsons and Crystal Martin of Pontiac, Michigan were found guilty of 17 charges. Prosecutors say Evick received more than $170,000 in bribes from two companies that had U.S. Department of Defense contracts in Kuwait, while Martin laundered the money through bank accounts in Kuwait and the U.S. Evick was a senior procurement officer at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait from February 2005 to December 2006. Besides the payments, Evick received airplane tickets and hotel accommodations.
