Man Indicted On Involuntary Manslaughter

{Charleston, West Virginia}...A Kanawha County Grand Jury has indicted 41 year old Kenneth Slater on one count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 51 year old Robert Adkins, a former Alcohol Beverage Control Administration employee. Witnesses say Slater punched Adkins outside Mojo's Sports Bar in South Charleston on St. Patrick's Day. Slater told police that Adkins was making passes at his girlfriend and that he had grabbed the woman's arm, followed the couple and made suggestive comments. Adkins died days later from brain injuries, which the Medical Examiner believed to be from that single punch. Slater will be arraigned September 25th. Dan Holstein, chief of staff at the Kanawha County prosecutor's office, originally told Adkins' family that the state did not intend to pursue criminal charges against Slater, but Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Plants overrode that decision.
