West Virginia Counties Granted Individual Assistance

{Charleston, West Virginia}...Wednesday, individual assistance was granted for Raleigh, Kanawha, Nicholas and Fayette counties following a reconsideration of damage to the four counties sustained in the June 29th derecho. Governor Earl Ray Tomblin led the appeal effort after West Virginia's request for individual assistance had been denied. With the individual assistance, residents in the four named counties will be eligible for housing assistance to repair heavily damaged or destroyed homes, as well as other expenses for cleaning and the loss of personal property. FEMA officials say spoiled food does not qualify as damaged property, and generator costs will only be reimbursed in cases of documented medical need.
