SBA Approves Funding
{Charleston, West Virginia}...Monday, the School Building Authority approved $303,846 for the U.S. Army of Corps of Engineers to conduct feasibility studies on how to prevent future flooding along the Pocatalico River behind Walton Elementary and Walton Middle schools in Roane County. The county will provide $30,000 for the project. Once the study is complete, the actual stream bank remediation would cost a little more than $950,000. After a lengthy debate, the SBA approved $1 million in additional funding for the construction of a new elementary school for Charleston's west side that would consolidate Watts and J.E. Robins Elementary schools. The original allocation for the project two years ago was $12.5M. The price tag is now approximately $21M. That's because it cost much more than expected to get the site off Edgewood Drive prepped for construction. After a lengthy debate, the SBA approved the additional funding.
