Three Sentenced In Fatal Raid

  • {Elkins, West Virginia}...Thursday, U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin in Elkins sentenced 49 year old Sherry Smith, the widow of fugitive Charles Smith, his daughter Cassandra, 26, and her boyfriend, Anthony Lambert, 24, for lying to investigators about Smith's location and helping to hide him. Smith was killed during a raid at his Elkins home in February 2011. Before he was shot, Smith killed U.S. Marshal Derek Hotsinpiller, 24, from Bridgeport, and injured two other Deputy U.S. Marshals. Sherry Smith was sentenced to five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Cassandra Smith was sentenced to six months probation, all to be served in community confinement. She will also have to perform 100 hours of community service. Lambert, from Montrose, was sentenced to five months in prison followed by five months of supervised release to be served in community confinement. Sherry Smith and Anthony Lambert will self report to prison on June 18th.
