Tomblin Announces Millions In Workers Comp Savings

{Charleston, West Virginia}...Governor Earl Ray Tomblin has announced a reduction in the regulatory surcharge on workers compensation premiums, for both private market and self-insured employers, which will provide across the board savings to all employers totaling $2.7 million. The privatization of the workers compensation market had a surcharge of 5.5 percent to support the regulatory and appellate processes of the workers compensation system. That charge will drop 5 percent effective January 1, 2013, creating an annual savings of $2.2 million. Self-insured employers will see a similar decrease in their regulatory surcharge, generating approximately $5000,000 in annual savings. The adjustment is effective July 1, 2012.
