- {West Virginia}...Hughie Elbert Stover, 59, of Clear Fork, a former security chief at the Upper Big Branch mine in Raleigh County will go on trial Monday in federal court in Beckley on charges he lied to federal agents during their investigation into the April 5, 2010 explosion at the mine that killed 29 miners. Stover was not an employee at the time of the explosion. However, during the federal probe, Stover was questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other federal agencies. During those interviews, Stover allegedly made a number of false claims about security practices at UBB.
