Teen In Double Murder Moved To Adult Status
{West Virginia}...James Daughtery, 16, has been moved to adult status after being charged with the February 2010 murders of 53 year old Bruce Edward Duling and 33 year old Carrie Dawn Pontier who were found shot to death in a car parked on Chesterfield Avenue in Kanawha City. Kanawha Circuit Court Judge Carrie Webster was asked at the time by Prosecutor Mark Plants to transfer the 14 year old to adult status, but she did not do that until Wednesday. Judge Webster ordered Daughtery held without bond at the Tiger Morton Juvenile Detention Center, where he has been in custody since his arrest. According to the order signed by Webster, Plants and Assistant Prosecutor Maryclaire Akers, Daughtery had been involved in a drug deal with the victims on February 10, 2010 and a dispute arose. Mark Artez Johnson says Daughtery woke him up at 6:30 A.M. on February 10th and said, "I did it. I earned my stripes." He then said he had met Pontier and Duling at Fas Check in Kanawha City and Duling drove them to 57th Street. Daughtery said he first shot Pontier, and Duling turned to say something to him and he shot him twice.
