Dunbar Man Convicted

{Charleston, West Virginia}...Lamont Van Harris, 39, of Dunbar was found guilty Wednesday of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Investigators say Harris shot 30 year old Travis Bush multiple times September 17th at a convenience store on Carver Street in Institute. Bush and a relative had just made a purchase at the convenience store and were walking out when Harris began firing a 9-millimeter pistol at them, wounding Bush in the leg, and Bush collapsed into an alley beside the store. Harris continued firing at Bush, striking him multiple times, as he lay on the ground. Harris was convicted in federal court in 1992 of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver and possession of a firearm and was sentenced to nine years in prison. In 2002 Harris pleaded guilty in federal court to distribution of cocaine and served six years in prison. Harris was on federal probation at the time of the shooting for his 2002 conviction. He faces up to 10 years in prison when sentenced April 12th.
