Barboursville Doctor Seeks Reinstatement

  • {West Virginia}...The West Virginia Board of Osteopathy began hearing testimony Wednesday during a license suspension hearing for Dr. Philip Fisher, a Barboursville doctor accused of prescribing dangerous amounts of pain medication to patients, which may have contributed to at least seven deaths. The board revoked Fisher's license last month after he was accused of prescribing pain pills to patients while not providing sufficient patient monitoring. Board members say Fisher had romantic relationships with some patients who later became overdose victims. Fisher's attorney claims his client was involved with patients who were already susceptible to hurting themselves, and suicide may be the cause of some of the deaths. The hearing is not related to a federal investigation, which could result in charges being filed against Fisher.
