Belle Man Subdued After Standoff

  • {West Virginia}...After a 1 1/2-hour standoff in West Belle Monday morning, Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies subdued 58 year old Michael Slayton. Sheriff Mike Rutherford said a family member called 911 at about 9:30 A.M. saying Slayton was outside the house with a gun and threatening to shoot himself. A short time later Slayton came back into the house, but said he would shoot if police showed up. Sam Holcomb, a sheriff's department legal process server who knew Slayton personally, repeatedly tried to talk to Slayton on the telephone while deputies and members of the county SWAT team took up positions outside the house. Slayton came outside and threw a cellphone at deputies. Lt. Sean Crosier tried to grab Slayton, but Slayton pulled a gun on him before going back inside the house. Slayton eventually came back outside at the rear of the house, and deputies were able to subdue him with TASER guns.
