Mingo County Mother Re-Indicted

Brittany Scott, 25, formerly of North Matewan, has been re-indicted by a Mingo County Grand Jury after originally being charged with child abuse resulting in death. Assistant Prosecutor Teresa Maynard says the new charge, child neglect resulting in death, more accurately depicts the situation. Mingo County Sheriff's Cpl. Norman Mines says, around 9:00 A.M. on March 18th, Scott left her 5 month old child in his pack-and-play on the second floor of her home in Magnolia Gardens, and went to the first floor of her apartment where she watched TV and napped with other children. At 2:30 P.M., she went to check on the baby found him unresponsive in a garbage bag. A trial date has been set for May 29th. If found guilty, Scott faces three to 15 years in jail.
