Hundreds Attend Monsanto Case Mediation
{Charleston, West Virginia}...Hundreds of Nitro residents gathered Tuesday at the Charleston Marriott as attorneys attempted to forge a mediation in a class action lawsuit against the former Monsanto Company. The case, scheduled to begin trial January 3rd in Putnam Circuit Court, involves alleged contamination to properties and residents who lived near the former Monsanto chemical plant or attended school in the affected area from 1948 to the present. The lawsuit seeks medical monitoring for a large group of plaintiffs who believe they may have been adversely affected by an herbicide called 2,4,5-T at the Nitro plant. Monsanto owned and operated the plant from 1934 to 2000.The mass-litigation mediation involving 193 cases of alleged personal injury and wrongful death is being presided over by Circuit Judges Booker T. Stephens of McDowell County and Circuit Judge Alan D. Moats of Taylor County.
