Kanawha County Firefighter Dies

  • {Alum Creek, West Virginia}...A Kanawha County firefighter has taken a fatal fall. Joey King, 61, had spent seven years with the Davis Creek Ruthdale Volunteer Fire Department before being killed just after 2:00 A.M. Sunday morning when he fell from the Steven Wayne Smith Memorial Bridge on Sproul Road near Alum Creek. Capt. Matt Lively of the volunteer fire department says a crew from the fire department responded to a call of a fire involving a large pile of railroad ties in the area of Corridor G when the incident occurred. Officials say King was looking over the bridge when he fell off and down an embankment. The incident is under investigation by the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, State Fire Marshal and Medical Examiner.
