Clay County Man Charged In Fatal Shooting

{Nebo, West Virginia}...Natural Resources Police have charged 79 year old Alfred Dawson of Nebo, in Clay County, in a March 10th shooting incident that left his great nephew, 15 year old Dillon Dawson, dead. Alfred Dawson is charged with negligent shooting--fatality, shooting at a wild animal not plainly visible, hunting from a motor vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle. The criminal complaint states the young victim and his grandfather, Ray Dawson Sr., were working together on a string trimmer in the yard when they heard Alfred, the grandfather's brother, start up his side-by-side UTV and head up the hill of their property to place a game camera on a baited deer feeder. Ray Dawson told police he lost track of Dillon and soon heard two gunshots. A short time later, the grandfather received a call from Alfred saying he had observed the family's dog around the feeder and "something brown" behind it.  He believed the brown object was a coyote, and he shot from a distance of 444-feet. When he got to the feeder, Dillon was lying dead behind a log. Alfred Dawson is to appear in Clay County Magistrate Court to answer to the charges by April 10th.
