Utah Man Appears In Charleston District Court
{West Virginia}...Raymond P. Morris, 51, of Utah, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary E. Stanley in U.S. District Court in Charleston Thursday, where he entered a not guilty plea after being charged in connection with a 2006 mortgage fraud scheme which caused lenders to lose approximately $1.9 million. An indictment was filed September 14th against Morris, along with 38 year old Hurricane resident Deborah L. Joyce and 37 year old Michael Hurd, also of Utah. The indictment accuses Morris, Joyce and Hurd of creating a scheme in which they arranged the purchase of several properties in the Stonegate subdivision in Hurricane, purchased the homes at market value but falsely obtained inflated appraisals to flip properties to out-of-state borrowers. According to the indictment, Morris was associated with the Utah-based real estate investment club 100X Inc., and he was the sole principal in Nevada-based Integrity Financial Solutions Inc.
