Mingo Logan Coal Company Agrees To Fine

{Logan, West Virginia}...The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection says Mingo Logan Coal Company is agreeing to pay $350,000 in penalties for unpermitted mine discharges into Proctor Hollow and Buffalo Creek in Logan County in 2009. Under the consent decree, the coal company does not admit liability for any alleged violations. The proposed settlement would direct $300,000 to a state fund dedicated to stream restoration. The remaining $50,000 would be given over five years to the Buffalo Creek Watershed Association. Mingo Logan Coal is a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Arch Coal Inc.
