{Charleston , West
Virginia }…West Virginia Board of Education President
Wade Linger said Tuesday that the board will meet again November 29th to vote
on Superintendent Jorea Marple's firing after concerns were raised over whether
the board violated the open meetings law when it voted 5-2 to fire her last
Thursday. State Board of Education member Gayle Manchin, wife of Senator Joe
Manchin, said Tuesday that the need to change the deep-seeded culture at West Virginia 's public
school system prompted her vote last week to fire Superintendent Jorea Marple. Manchin
blamed a mindset at the state Department of Education for West Virginia 's chronically poor rankings on
test scores and graduation rates. Manchin says, although close to $2
billion was spent this budget year, one of the highest investments of education
in the country, the "results certainly do not attest to that."
