Mine Layoffs In Boone County

{Madison, West Virginia}…The West Virginia Coal Association estimates more than 3,000 Mountain State coal mining jobs have been lost this year, with 9,000 lost throughout the Appalachian region. During the next couple of weeks, Newtown Energy is laying off 116 workers at its Peerless Mine in Boone County. Newtown also is laying off six employees at its Coalburg No. 1 Mine and two salaried warehouse workers. The company announced the move in September.
