Victims Of Marshall Plane Crash Remembered

{Huntington, West Virginia}…Thousands attended the 42nd annual Marshall University plane crash memorial ceremony at noon Wednesday. New Jersey resident Mo Lajterman was the keynote speaker at the annual memorial service honoring the 75 Marshall University football players, staff and supporters who died in the November 14, 1970 plane crash. His brother, Marcelo Lajterman, was a kicker on the team. Lajterman said he intentionally stayed away from Huntington for years until a 2000 visit, when he came for the premiere of the documentary "Ashes to Glory." Lajterman said that’s when he discovered how people were amazed by his brother’s kicking and punting skills. Lajterman and his brothers, Tito and Abe, were invited by Marshall to attend the premiere of the "We Are Marshall" movie in Huntington in 2006. He says they did and cried for two hours as they sat in the Keith Albee Theatre. An enlarged photograph of four players from Tuscaloosa, Alabama was presented to Marshall, and the ceremony ended with the names of the victims being read. Coach Doc Holliday helped lay the wreath at the fountain which was turned off until next year.
