Repeat DUI Offender Sentenced

{Huntington, West Virginia}…Forty-nine year old John Caldwell of Huntington has been sentenced to five to 16 years in prison. Last year, Caldwell led police on a chase from Lawrence County, Ohio across the Ohio River into Huntington while his blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit. Cabell County Circuit Court Judge Alfred Ferguson told Caldwell, who hasn’t had a driver’s license since the 1980s, that  he was frustrated by his repeat DUI pattern, an offense that results nationally in one in every three highway deaths. Caldwell, who has been arrested on 13 DUI charges and has at least seven felony third-offense DUI convictions since September 1982, was eligible for a life sentence, but prosecutors chose not to pursue it in exchange for his guilty plea.
