{West Virginia}...Larry Hayes, Jr. 22 of Charleston, faces 10-40 years in prison after being convicted Monday in connection with the death of his former fiancée’s 18-month-old daughter, Rebecca McDaniel. A 12-member jury found Hayes guilty on one count of child abuse resulting in death. Hayes was caring for McDaniel, the daughter of Meredith Bush, last October when she suffered a severe head wound. Expert testimony said the girl's injuries were consistent with physical abuse. Hayes did not take the stand in his own defense but he gave police two different stories on what happened. He first told them the young girl simply slumped over in her car seat, but, when presented with the medical evidence, he said he fell down a flight of stairs with the girl in his arms. Hayes will be sentenced October 28th.
