Elkins Police/Randolph County Deputies Conclude Investigation

  • {West Virginia}...Officials from the Elkins Police Department and the Randolph County Sheriff's Department held a news conference Monday to go over the details of their investigation into the death of 67 year old Raymond Canfield of Elkins. Authorities have concluded Robert Hedrick was responsible for Canfield's death. Hedrick committed suicide three days after Canfield disappeared on June 20th. On June 21st, Hedrick tried to cash a check from Canfield for $13,000. When questioned by police, he told them the check was payment for carpentry work he had done for Canfield. Canfield's car was found on June 22nd at the Days Inn in Elkins. On June 23rd, police found Hedrick's body in a room at the Elkins Motor Lodge. Canfield's body was found in the Norton area on June 24th. Police believe Hedrick's motive was robbery and that he acted alone. Hedrick had numerous prior convictions.
