Former Credit Union Vice President Pleads Guilty

  • {West Virginia}...Michelle Morris, a former vice president of operations at the Star USA Federal Credit Union’s St. Albans and Cantley branches, appeared before U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver Monday for a five-count indictment charging her with bank fraud and false entries.  Morris pleaded guilty to a six-year bank fraud scheme dating back to 2004. According to the indictment, Morris created fraudulent loans and home equity credit lines ranging from $5,000 to $134,000 using relatives’ information. Morris then converted the loan proceeds to her own use and concealed evidence by changing mailing codes and addresses to keep relatives from receiving mailings. Later, Morris created additional fraudulent loans, which she used to pay off her earlier loans and made “numerous materially false entries” in the credit union’s books to conceal the fraudulent loans. Morris well be sentenced November 29th.
