Man Indicted For Three Sniper Shootings
- Two months after a grand jury indicted Shawn Lester, 35, for the August 2003 shooting murder of Jeanie Patton, Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Plants announced Thursday that Lester has been indicted on all three of the 2003 sniper-style murders, including Gary Carrier and Okey Meadows, Jr. Charles Roberts, a former inmate who became close with Lester while incarcerated, testified at a preliminary hearing for Lester that Lester confided in him and detailed his part in the shooting death of Patton. According to Roberts, Lester said he had shot and killed Patton in retaliation for a stolen engine block stuffed full of meth. The engine belonged to drug dealer Gilberto Lopez-Reyna, also known as "Tito." Investigators say Patton, Carrier and Meadows were all shot with the same .22 caliber rifle in the same time period. Patton, 31, and Okey Meadows Jr., 26, were shot on August 14, 2003, within 90 minutes of each other at convenience stores about 10 miles apart. Gary Carrier Jr., 44, had been killed four days earlier while talking on a pay phone outside a Charleston Go-Mart store.
