Raleigh County Man Charged With Stealing Copper

  • {West Virginia}...Sidney Ballard Williams, also known as Dicky Lee Williams, of Raleigh County, was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony destruction of property, grand larceny and conspiracy to commit a felony. Fayette County Sheriff's deputies responded after receiving a call about two people in the Pax area apparently stealing copper by cutting power lines. Upon responding to the area, deputies found Williams and took him into custody. He was arraigned before a magistrate and was released on a $50,000 bond. Investigators have identified at least two other people associated with the crime and additional charges are pending. According to the Security Director for Appalachian Power, the replacement cost of the stolen wire is in excess of $1,000, but the total cost to replace this damaged wire is approximately $10,000.
