Boone County Attorney Questions Water Testing

  • {West Virginia}...Boone County Attorney Roger Decanio, who represents residents who believe coal companies contaminated their water supply with slurry says a state-sanctioned study of the problem isn’t going far enough. More than 350 people in Seth and Prenter are suing eight coal companies they believe ruined their water through a combination of blasting and underground injection of slurry. The Department of Environmental Protection said Wednesday that its consultant, Triad Engineering, has taken 40 water samples, 22 from wells, as it investigates whether mining operations can be linked to bad well water. Decanio says the study appears to be incomplete, and he’s worried Triad’s report later this year won’t represent the scope of the problem.
